Puerto Rico Points of Interest

There's a small island off of Puerto Rico called Vieques, also referred to as the Isla Nena. If you're in Puerto Rico and have the time check it out. Ferry rides out there run $3 a person and you can stay at my favorite bed and breakfast there the Seagate. Penny Miller is the owner of this fine eco-friendly tropical guest inn. Check out if you're out there. The beaches in Vieques are amazing and the best ones need a 4x4 vehicle to get to, but make your reservations for a rental in advance or if you have a car in Puerto Rico book with the Port Authority cargo for around $26 round trip for the driver and vehicle. Call 787-863-0705 for reservations.

I suppose it may be time to start posting things to do in sunny Puerto Rico. I've been here awhile now, I guess I could say I've been "institutionalized", yes, quite like Morgan Freeman in Shawnshank Redemption. But no worries, I won't be hangin myself or anything. I just realized that I havent left Puerto Rico in some long time (ie 3 yrs!) and now that I'm flying away on a trip and I'm kidna scared.
You see my world is defined by 100 miles by 35 miles of tropical paradise. YES, it seems quite crowded at times, but I know it all and its easy to call home. The world out there, the world beyond the cave of Fraggle, is enormous and seems completely capable of chewing me up and spitting out a bloody worthless cadaver. Uyyy..
So, it's my point to start posting more things to do. I've been taking all this beauty in and not sharing of my knowledge of it. No more. I promise.

SproutSearch - caribbean cruise Recently I Googled my blog name and found it on this listing. Apparently this website's searching engine thinks my blog may have something to do with cruise ships, but at least it also lists my blog under Puerto Rico blogs. Anyhow, if you're lookin for info on cruise ships, you're in the wrong place. I hate those things....

The lobby filled with people waiting for a ride. Alas, just another snagfu to deal with while working in Puerto Rico. Although I only have a 5 minute walk to work, I have a 20 minute wait for an elevator. Yea!

I was walking thru our greatest mall in the Caribbean, Plaza Las Americas, exiting the wonderful department store Macy's, when I see a waterfall inside the mall. Apparently heavy rains exposed a little known leak and water was gushing onto the mall floor. A security guard quickly placed two trash cans underneath the falls. Plaza Las America's newest attraction? The great falls of Hato Rey???

1 in 2 new Americans since 2000 is Hispanic: This article explains how "Hispanics" (aka someone who speaks something other than english and not french and lives in the american continent) are taking over, multiplying like cockroaches and soon to be infesting even the most secure corners of the wealthy and exclusive.

Wired News: Legal Pot's No Pipe Dream: "'Supposedly that's what everyone wants -- that this issue should be solved through science rather than through politics and that's what we're saying as well,' Doblin said. 'The problem is, when we try to do the science we find out the government is not really that interested in solving the issue through science.'" Yeah man, figure it out with scientists.

Nine major Puerto Rico drug manufacturers report $24.3 billion in sales: Geez, good to see someone is making lots of loot by stripping resources from this little island while paying its employees substandard wages and benefits. from the article: "In 2005, the top-six pharmaceutical-drug-manufacturing companies in the U.S. will return an estimated $75 billion in profits from their foreign subsidiaries because of the American Jobs Creation Act. Bristol-Myers Squibb, Eli Lilly, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Pfizer, and Wyeth already announced they will repatriate or are considering repatriating approximately $75 billion in foreign profits to the U.S. The companies, which would have paid up to $26 billion in standard federal taxes under usual circumstances, now will pay less than $4 billion."

Last thursday, June 1st, Ponce defeated the Santurce Cangrejeros. Once again, a nerve chilling last minute showdown, but in Santurce's defense their star center missed the game 'cuz he was trying out for the NBA.
